- As part of National Management Day Celebrations, the Palakkad Management Association(PMA) conducted District level Quiz competition on 22nd February, 2010.
The team from SICOMS (Mohd. Azaj Alum & Abdul Latheef, 2nd Trimester PGDM students) bagged the First Prize.
- SICOMS & SKC celebrated their Annual Day titled ‘JASHN ’10 &rsquo in splendid style on 13th Feb.’10.
The function was inaugurated by Popular Malayalam Cine Artist Mr. Sudheesh. The students put up a
talent packed cultural programs spanning 6 hours and the day culminated with a music show by
Mr.Ajay Sathyan (Amritha Super Star & Idea Star Singer Fame).

visited SICOMS on 6th February, 2010 and spoke to PGDM students on Global Job Opportunities.
- The PGDM Students secured prizes in Raga Reggae & 80’s Ka Bahar in Bloom Ver 7.0 - South Zone Inter-Collegiate Cultural
Fest conducted at Nehru Group of Institutions, Kerala on 5th February, 2010.
- Mr.Satish Menon, Country Manager-Logistics of HP Technology Services, Bangalore visited SICOMS on 31st January, 2010 and
spoke to the PGDM students on Logistics systems in HP.
- The PGDM Students organized In-House Cricket Tournament 2010 for Sadanam Kumaran & Sarojini Amma Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy
from 18th January, 2010 to 2nd Feruary, 2010 at SICOMS. The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. M. Geetha Nayar,
Head of Business Communication Dept., SICOMS. Prof. K.Ravikumar, Director, SICOMS distributed the prizes for
the Winners, Runners-Ups etc. The tournament was the 1st of its kind in our college and brought out the
sporting talent and sportive spirit of the students.

- The PGDM 2009-2011 batch students got Industrial training at Big Bazaar, Palakkad from 23rd January, 2010 to 26th January 2010.
The students boosted the sales during the festive period and were appreciated for their performance by the senior executives.

- The PGDM students were invited to attend "The 7th NIPM Award Nite" hosted at FCRI, Kanjikode on 2nd January, 2010 .
Corporate Excellence Awards were given to Mr. V. R. S Natarajan, CMD, BEML Ltd, Dr. George Sleeba, CMD FACT Ltd,
Mr. Syam Prasad, Head Manufacturing, Marico Ltd, Mr. K. Ramachandran Pillai, CMD, NTPC Ltd and
Mr G. K. Pillai, CMD, Heavy Engg Corp Ltd.
It was a rare opportunity for our students to meet and listen to so many top Management Personnel.
- As an integral and compulsory part of the PGDM course, all of the students of SICOMS
had a one day Industry Familiarization Visit to Malabar Cements, Walayar on 16th October 2009.
This industrial visit provided an insight on how the company works and also useful information
related to the course which cannot be visualized in lectures such as procurement of lime
stone to the making of the final product (cement).
- Mr. K.I. Raphael, Dy. Director (P & A) of FCRI, Palakkad visited SICOMS on 1st October 2009
and gave a motivational talk to 1st year PGDM students to increase their commitment towards
their Course and Institute.

Ms. Aparna Menon, Software Engineer, Accenture, USA, distributed free Laptops
to all our 2009 -2011 batch PGDM students on 12th September, 2009. The students
are provided with Wipro's Latest Model BM 4900 Laptops. SICOMS is the second
Institution in Kerala who have bought this latest model of Wipro's Laptop.

As part of our Re - Orientation Programme for the PGDM
2008-10 Batch
on their return to SICOMS campus after SIP, the following interactive
sessions were organized on 3rd and 4th August, 2009.

Management scenario & relevance of Life skills in turbulence".

Mr. Renju Khorath , Head, HR operations, Big Bazaar, Palakkad
delivered a session on "Trends & Opportunities in Retailing".

Dr. L.R. Gowri, Reference Librarian, The American Library, Chennai
visited SICOMS on 22nd July,2009. She had a special session with the
Faculty and students to explain the various resources available for
the American Library.

Dr.A.P.Jayaram took a one day seminar for 2009- 2011 batch PGDM students
on "LOGICAL THINKING AND REFERENCING" on 18th July, 2009.

The PGDM students who have opted "Human Resources" as Specialization, conducted
a 2 hour Training Session for 40 plus students on "Career Management" on 27th
May,2009 at SICOMS. The focus was on choosing suitable course after Plus 2.
The trainers provided several course details to the students as well as guided
them on other criteria such as interest, talent, personality factors that are
important in choosing a career. The training programme was supervised by their
HR Faculty, Prof. Dr. M.M. Sulphey.

Mr. P. Anand, Executive Vice President & National Business Head of
Radio Mirchi - one of the leading FM Radio Stations in India -
visited SICOMS on 23rd May 2009 and spoke to PGDM students about the
"Positioning Strategy and Competitive Advantages of Radio Mirchi"

The PGDM Students Specializing in Shipping and Logistics Management of SICOMS
went for an Industry Familiarisation Visit to Indira Gandhi Container Terminal
(IGCT) operated by DP World at Cochin Port on 15th May ,2009. They also visited
the new International Container Transshipment Terminal(ICTT) coming up at
Vallarpadam. Apart from gaining a first hand experience of Container
handling operations, the students had detailed interactions with Mr.
Suresh Joseph , General Manager,DP World, Cochin and Mr. Cheriyan Abraham,
Operations Manager.

Group Captain(Retd.) R. Muralidharan visited SICOMS on 12th May, 2009
and spoke to the PGDM students on Psychological Climate through Adjustments.

SICOMS celebrated National Technology Day on 11th May 2009. As part of the
celebrations, the students competed in "Srishti - The Best Business Proposal"
competition organized by the Students Activities Committee at SICOMS on 5th
May 2009. The students used four different technologies to present their
business proposals. A key note address on "Technology- Its importance and
impact on business life" was delivered by Dr A P Jayaraman, Dean, SICOMS
and Technology expert. Mr A K K Nair, Chairman, Board of Directors, SICOMS
gave a special address on preparing the students for Summer Internship
Programme commencing in June 2009. The celebrations concluded with awarding
prizes to the winners of competition.

SICOMS Celebrated "Materials Management Day" on 23rd April 2009 in association with
Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI), Kanjikode, Palakkad.
Director of FCRI Cmdr. Saseendran gave a talk on "Leadership vs. Management".
He also gave away prizes to the winners of quiz competition on Materials Management
& Supply Chain conducted earlier at SICOMS. Mr. K.I. Raphael, Manager P&A spoke on
"Japanese Management Practices" and Dr. A.P. Jayaraman, Professor at SICOMS gave a
lecture on Materials Management. The Students were taken around on an Industrial Visit of FCRI.

SICOMS conducted a One Day Workshop on SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT - AN EMERGING
TOOL FOR PROFITABILITY - A Special Focus on Materials Management for Health
Care Systems/SMEs on February 21, 2009 at Kerala Institute of Entrepreneurship
Development (KIED), Kalamassery, Cochin. The Workshop was well attended and the
participants found the insputs from the workshop as very useful.

The PGDM students of SICOMS had a very educative Industry Familiarisation Visit to
Coimbatore Airport on February 14, 2009. All the necessary security clearances were
obtained from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the visit. The Industry
Familiarisation Visit was followed by a one day educative excursion to the
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Eigth Biennial Conference on Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship Research has
accepted a paper titled "Contemporary Issues in Entrepreunership Research: Social
Entrepreneurship" by Prof (Dr) V.SIVARAMAN, Professor&Head of MDP&FDP at SICOMS
for presentation at the Conference to be held during 19-21 March 2009 at EDII,
Ahmedabad. Congratulations!!

Mr.SUNIL MENON, Head of Operations (India) - Wal Mart visited SICOMS on Feb 5, 2009
and spoke to the PGDM students on the Retail Industry's growth and its implications.

Mr.Vijay Sakhare, Superindent of Police (Palakkad) addressed the students of
SICOMS on January 30, 2009 as part of the Leadership Lecture Series on
“Right to Information”. Mr.Sakhare is a 1996 batch IPS officer having done

On January 19, 2009, Prof.C.P.Jha, Retd Professor of Modern History at Allahabad University
gave a talk to SICOMS PGDM students on "Important Personalities of the 20th Century" in the
context of the history of nation building, their leadership styles and the significance of
their ideology in the present day context.

Swami Bodhananda Saraswati, founder Director of Sambodh Foundation, New Delhi and The Sambodh Society Inc, USA
delivered a lecture on Creativity to students of SICOMS on January 5, 2009. Swami Bodhananda Saraswati is an
erudite scholar and an engaging speaker. He has addressed students at premier institutes in India and abroad.

Dynamics on Nov 1, 2008. Prof Jayavelu is a specialist in areas of Organisational Behaviour and Culture.He has

Mr.T.P.Sreenivasan (IFS-Retd), addresses the students of SICOMS on October 17, 2008 as part of the Leadership
Lecture Series. Mr.Sreenivasan was the former Indian Ambassador to USA and Austria and Indian's permanent
representative at the UN. He is presently the Director General of the Kerala International Center at
Thiruvananthapuram and also the Executive Director of the IAEA 2020 Project. Mr.Sreenivasan is a Member
